sometimes there are things you see all the time and never give it much of a thought. and then… you see it in a different context and bOOOOM! it’s like a whole new thing entirely, full of potential and possibility. it’s as if you’re seeing it again for the first time.

well it turns out faux fur is for more than halloween costumes and vintage cheetah jackets and we can’t get enough. the coats are amazing, but let’s talk about these heels for a minute!

the teddy bear browns of yesterday have been transformed into a variety of sorbet shades. neutral nudes are striped alongside vibrant hot pinks. texture plays largely into the effect too, shaggy, fluffy and closely shorn.

as with apparel and accessories these innovations also seem to be gaining momentum within interior elements as well. flokati style rugs, throw pillows and poufs are popping up in hues other than white and cream. with the cold months of winter rapidly approaching we welcome this trend with a big, warm hug.

last but certainly not least! our 4th post with rent the runway. this pink jill stuart gown put many hearts in my eyes!

this 70’s cape dress is perfect with just a simple bracelet like this one. it doesn’t need much!

i may have climbed up on the neighbors roof for this one! jesse had me spinning right near the edge which was pretty terrifying, but happy she got the shot she wanted! ha. i loved the hair look that ashley created for this dress and wanted to share some tips on how you could create this on your own with just a couple of steps.

how to go from messy to silky smooth without washing:

“During the photo shoot I had to transform Bri’s hair from messy textured waves to this sleek retro look. The trick is to add a moisturizing styling foam (i use this one!) to dry hair and round brush out the hair section by section. This gives the hair a voluminous sleek look without having to wash her hair and it will hold really well throughout your evening.”

when i was looking through the site, i was immediately drawn to this elegant black sequin gown. the lace bodice and tulle skirt were incredible! paired with a black cat eye, a red lipstick (the color is  #4 “in danger” by ysl!) and an up-do hair style. the perfect hostess look for a glamorous evening with friends. ashley created this up-do really quickly and with a few simple steps that she outlines below. such an easy-do for a night out!

from day to night hair:

“Whether your hair is straight, curly, wavy or messy during the day you can transform into a night time bombshell in just a few steps!

1. Lightly spray hair with a texturizing spray (i use this one!). For thicker or straight hair spray a little extra.

2. Choose a side or center part. Your preference.

3. Tease hair at the crown and sides with a teasing brush (like this!) and then using the same teasing brush lightly brush to control teasing.

4. Gather all hair at the nape of the neck as if you where creating a low pony. Then fold, twist and pin using hair pins.

5. Using your teasing brush refine shape and finish with a light hairspray (this one is great!).”

hopefully after seeing all of these dresses in the past 4 posts you are just as convinced as i was that rent the runway is amazing. i will definitely be using it for birthdays, weddings, hosting and attending events. i signed up for the unlimited program where you pay $99 a month and get to keep 3 items for as long as you want, and when you return them you get 3 more. just genius!

thanks for your sweet comments about the looks! i hope you find some pretty dresses to get all dolled up in too!

we have shown you 6 of my favorite cocktail dress looks here and here, and now it’s time for some of rent the runway’s gorgeous evening looks. i can’t even explain how fun it was to dress up in these pretty dresses!

and don’t miss this $500 giveaway with them on my instagram here!

the first was this lacey blush strapless gown that feels like marilyn when you put it on!

that one would be an awesome one to rent for a fancier wedding or black tie event. instant princess effect! and i love the soft pink lip color that kelly used, it’s by anastasia called dusty rose. such a subtle color but works really well with a more dramatic eye.

this cynthia rowley dress is $800 and cost $125 to rent. i loved the quilted material, it felt so comfortable and fitted. the blue and green  jewel tones were also a really nice twist.

if you are like me, you tend to like a designers cuts and body shapes, so multiple dresses from their collections fit nicely on you. i was really loving cynthia rowley when i was trying a bunch of dresses on, so luckily you can search by designer on the site to make it easier to look for something you like. i thought this purple floral dress was so stunning!

one more post coming up soon!

did you see our first cocktail dress post a few days ago, here? this one has 3 more of my favorite cocktail party looks that you can rent from rent the runway. it’s so awesome that you can rent a $500+ designer dress for sometimes less than $75! all the designers have different rental prices, but you can get some amazing deals. when i think about how many weddings or events i bought dresses for and only wore once or twice, i feel so silly for not using this service!

this long missoni gown was the perfect 70’s look, i was OBSESSED with it. we decided it would be fun to all dress up in them and call ourselves the missoni house cats. this dress felt very california cool and would be ideal for a work event or laid back wedding.

this next little jeweled number was one that immediately caught my eye. colorful and unique…

i paired the dress with a cool silver clutch from opening ceremony. i just want to rent this to wear to a friend’s birthday party or a night out with the girls, martini in hand.

i don’t often wear jumpsuits, because i just think they look best on taller women. but this jill stuart forest green jumpsuit was really lovely. the wide legs and strapless bodice is a great combo for this piece. i even ordered it for a rehearsal dinner at my friend’s wedding coming up.

you can rent the necklace and handbag too!

which is your favorite cocktail look out of these 3 and these 3 from the first post? i’d love to hear!

when rent the runway asked me if i wanted to collaborate on a project recently, i was a little hesitant to be honest. i figured it was mostly geared towards really formal events and i didn’t see much need for it myself. but i was very wrong in that! i searched the site and found tons of outfits i could be renting for work events, weddings and parties. i even casual everyday looks that would be too expensive to buy at full price. so i decided to team up with them and show you a few of my favorite looks for any occasion, broken up into four posts this week and next week. i became a serious rent the runway fan during the process!

first i’m going to show you some of the casual cocktail dresses i was really into, and coming soon will be the fancier evening gowns. we wanted to stick with a 60’s-70’s vibe for the shoot, so we figured what would a better location be than this modern hollywood hills house rented from one fine stay…just check out that sweet pool!

i love this patterned neoprene dress with flared sleeves. it’s so unique and super comfortable. it’s both sophisticated and playful which is a hard combo to come by and something i’m particularly fond of, i don’t like to take fashion too seriously! kelly completed the look with a dark plum lipstick (which was a first for me) and i loved it! it’s an anastasia liquid lipstick in trust issues and would be nice on hand to mix up your standard going out make up look.

this rachel zoe black tuxedo dress was amazing. i felt like i was instantly more powerful when i put it on. haha. i paired it with my favorite pair of black patent leather heels and some messy waves.

the tuxedo dress is just the right amount of sexy, while still keeping that classy look. i actually rented this look after the shoot for a work trip i had coming up. it’s subtle and sexy at the same time and works for a range of occasions.

this lavendar elizabeth and james coat was one of my absolute favorite items on the site! i love the fact that i can rent a coat for a trip to the east coast, considering i don’t need to buy a ton of coats living in los angeles. i also love that i can wear it over cocktail dress. i hate having to wear a coat that ruins my look and this is the perfect solution.

i paired it with a chunky silver dannijo cuff and a vera wang embellished shift dress. the whole look had a very 60’s vibe and would be perfect for a wedding or cocktail party.

see more looks next week! which one would you wear of these 3?
