COLOR | STYLED

styled | designlovefest

a few weeks back when we were scouting the rooftop at ROW for our tiki party. a happy windblown colorful shot. bri is wearing this colorful floral blouse by sezane, with these ace&jig pants (that are currently on sale!) madewelland metalic loffler randall shoes. i’m wearing a vintage silk dress from the 80’s and sandals (in my experience madewell shoes are very comfortable!)

a few more colorful things that caught my eye!

A PANT PSA

i’m working on a style post right now but i wanted to send out a quick thumbs up on these pants (the stella trousers from LACAUSA). i picked up my friend from the airport last weekend and she was also wearing them and looking very chic. i’ve lived in them this summer, they’re perfectly high waisted, comfortable and don’t stretch out or look frumpy. i’ve gotten tons of compliments on them. i have the brushed version which has a little more structure, a bit more fitted through the waist, they’re 100% cotton (pictured above) but they also come in the lighter version that is a 60% Tencel/40% cotton (pictured below). highly recommend! they fit true to size, i have the size 4 in navy but they come in so many pretty colors, it’s hard to choose!

i’ve been attempting to up my pant game, i wear a lot of dresses and realized that several of the jeans i have are from college and are looking really worn in, especially around the knees. so i donated a bunch of them and i’m slowly working to add in new pairs. i just ordered these from Zara and also these from AGOLDE, my first pair by them but i’ve heard great things so i’ll keep you posted. – joanie

STYLED | SALES

summer sales | designlovefest

so many things on sale right now, it’s hard to navigate. i very rarely buy anything full price so for me sale season is the time to stock up. below are 15 sale items, everything from madewell to ace & jig to eileen fisher that are worth a look and maybe a purchase. one thing to remember with sales is to think outside of the seasonal box, when you’re building a wardrobe of pieces you love you might pick up a pair of boots you love in the spring and a swimsuit in the winter. it’s hard to shop for something super specific and when you’re on a time crunch, so instead of waiting until you have a party and stressing to find a dress, build a closet of things you love and can reach for anytime the occasion arises!

Ganni wide- leg pants $70: a flattering shape in a fun summer color. ganni is always a favorite of mine!

Madewell striped tee $33: few things are more classic than a striped tee, love this boxy one from madewell.

Gold-plated earrings $80: i’m in love with these fun earrings, such a statement and you can pair with anything!

Loeffler Randall wedge $118: a very cool color combo and these shoes are very comfortable with a wedge!

Zara dress $50: the little bow detail is on the back of this dress is the perfect touch on a simple and easy to wear piece.

Square toe heels $285: gingham never goes out of style!

Organic cotton sweater $118: i ordered this sweater, a cotton sweater on a chilly summer evening and in this punch of pink is a perfect match.

Brass earrings $104: simple earrings that will go with anything.

Alpaca scarf $70: totally not the right season but worth buying now and tucking away, alpaca is so soft!

Mansur Gavriel pump $285: they’re called the ballerina pump and they live up to their name!

Isabel Marant striped shirt $188: a shirt for all seasons, would be cute with a pair of shorts or in the fall with jeans.

Clare V. red basket $112: we’re big clare v. fans around here and you can beat the price on this little red bag.

CANO earrings $105: a new to me brand, i love the clean lines of these earrings. lots of earrings in this round up but they are such a fun thing to mix up your current wardrobe!

Ace & Jig pants $208: bri has these pants and she loves them and i love them on her. so many pretty prints!

Annie Costello Brown circle hoops $56: this is an insanely good price, i love her earrings!

THE SHIRTDRESS

we’ve heard the timeless tale of a classic white button down shirt but i think the shirt dress is just as classic and versatile. it’s that chic summer option you can wear with sneakers, sandals, unbuttoned over shorts, as a swim cover up, etc, etc. especially a fan of one that are 100% cotton as they are breathable and easy to wash. in love with this one with the delicate lace detailing on the hem.

here are a few shop-able options, if you’re looking to add one to your wardrobe…

Gauze shirtdress – this option is in gauze which makes it the perfect hot weather dress. the clean line of the collar give a usually very casual fabric a more sophisticated feel

Everlane cotton shirtdress – this one looks super short, but remember the model is 5’11”, a very classic cut with a nice crisp look to it.

Mohawk shirt dress – such a pretty option, i love the built in belt and the hem detailing. it’s nice in black too.

Shirt coverup dress – cute over a swimsuit or with a pair of denim shorts under it.

Lou&Grey shirtdress – on double sale right now, i like the contrasting stitch.

COS organic shirt dress – COS does a classic well and this one is a great short sleeved option.

PERSONAL STYLE

personal style | designlovefest

bri and i have been working together for 6 + years and we’ll often remark to each other how little we’ve influenced each others style. we have some similar items but for the most part we don’t gravitate towards the same things (with the exception of this ace&jig dress that she influenced me to buy, we both love a good wrap dress). we can both easily pick out what the other person would wear, saying “that’s so you”, or “this totally made me think of you”. she tends to be much more colorful and bohemian and i tend to wear more neutrals and clean lines. she almost never wears denim while i’ll wear jeans a couple times a week and often a denim jacket (this is my current fave). she loves a good layered look and i tend to wear more fitted things. i like sleeveless, she really doesn’t. we both dig a long dress, but mine would be more 90’s, hers more 70’s.

we always appreciate what the other person is wearing but we almost never borrow or share clothes which i think is funny considering how close we are and how much time we spend together. i want to start adding in some styled posts that are a breakdown of our individual style, things we gravitate towards, what we’d each wear to a specific location, party, event, even a workout class. i find personal style really interesting, i love how some people can totally pull off specific looks or how seeing something can make you immediately think of that person in your life who’d wear it. and i also love seeing how two people would style the same piece so hopefully we’ll have some of those posts coming soon too! do you feel like you have a specific personal style you stick to her do you wear anything and everything?   – joanie
