yesterday was a great birthday! a wonderful hot stone massage in silver lake (here), brunch with a friend, bought a new coat on sale at the stevan alan outpost, treated myself to new matching underwear sets from panty raid in los feliz (so girly in there).
later in the day, arian and i went to dinner at katsu-ya in studio city, one of my favorite sushi restaurants. the line is always out the door for this tiny place so we got there right at 5:30pm when they opened. and then we ended the evening seeing the movie Her.
wow, this spike jonze movie was just what i needed. it’s basically about a guy who falls in love with his operating system (set in the future) i didn’t really know what to expect, but i had high hopes based on the trailer (watch below). i thought the movie was spectacular. it was intimate, beautiful, fascinating, hilarious, honest, unexpected, romantic, and unique. and the music definitely pulled at your heart.
i also loved the colors used in the film! the office had a ton of visual appeal…
watch the trailer here… did you see the movie yet? did you love it or hate it?
(stills from the Her website)
i love terrain’s simple aesthetic. there’s something so relaxing about the items in their shop. they remind me of a backyard dinner party under string lights with friends. here’s a few items i decided to splurge on as an early birthday present to myself. i guess you know you’re getting older when a marble tray is pretty much the best thing ever.
i’ll be turning 28 next week and i decided to keep it very low key this year. i’m going to dinner with a few friends here. i’ve been switching back and forth between fun party & intimate dinner each year and it’s nice. birthday parties can be great and all, but they can also be a lot of work! (here’s mine from last year)
some of the items i love: marble & wood cheese board, washed linen tablecloth, ceramic pasta bowls, wildflower bubble bath, two-toned tumblers
kirra jamison is a fellow color lover, it appears. inspiring combinations, eh?
