SUMMER DINNER PARTY

summer dinner party | designlovefest

it has been a minute since we’ve hosted a party and it felt so good to celebrate the start of summer with friends in a beautiful setting with some amazing vendors. one of the best parts about hosting is seeing all of the different aspects come together. i never fully know what it’s going to look like because everything is sourced from different places but the end result was stunning and just how i wanted it to be.

the starting point for building the table design, and the party, was the linens by la tavola (we also used their velvet linens for our friendsgiving last year). i mixed the charles linen with pink check napkins and the combo had a fresh, summer, farmhouse feeling. (i’m obsessed with gingham lately) the plates, glasses and silverware were all by casa de perrin who we use often and totally trust. we hosted it at the light lab which is a great east side space that was totally transformed by three of my friends and has killer style and versatility. just enough color, high ceilings, cement floors, big plush rugs and a gorgeous kitchen!

BACKYARD DINNER PARTY

i threw a dinner party last week with some of my closets girlfriends. it was a perfect evening with some of my favorite people, delicious food, and a little too much wine.

onefinestay let us host the party in a dream home for the evening, something i’d love to own one day, it was cozy and modern with the best backyard fireplace. the house had a great lived-in vibe, we all felt right at home as soon as we arrived. comfy couches, and lots of well placed art and accents.

our chef was daniel benhaim and his food was so pretty and insanely delicious.

we hosted the dinner with a company called kitchensurfing. they have locations all over the US but they’re new to LA. basically, they’re a dream come true for someone like me who loves to have people over but isn’t so much into the cooking a meal for everyone part. you can pick a chef from their list and they come to your home and prepare the meal in your kitchen, serve it and even do the dishes!

the pink campari cocktails were bright & strong. things got a little outta hand towards the end of the night….we ended up at a random beyonce tribute concert (HA!)

we kept everything really simple and fresh. laurel and wolf set the table and glasswing floral did a gorgeous job with the arrangements, such pretty combinations of pinks and earth tones. i love the chairs too!

i love how they displayed the appetizers on spoons, the beets with edible flowers were amazing.

it was one of those special evenings that are good for the soul.

HOLIDAY PARTY AT ROW DTLA!

holiday party at ROW DTLA | designlovefest

we capped off our year with an epic holiday party at ROW DTLA  last week and it was so much fun! this event was part of my year long partnership with them where i’m hosting events (like the Still Life Ceramics class a few weeks ago), visiting their amazing curation of shops and restaurants and overall getting to support their vision for bringing something really special to downtown LA!

they did the best job of picking out shops and restaurants that are destinations on their own and having them side by side and accessible with easy parking and car free streets adds to the experience. the murals, signage, and the layout of ROW is really well executed and makes for a fun outing.

of the flowers decked it out our dinner with tons of candles, a handmade tablecloth and the most beautiful wreaths i have ever seen (i love this shot of them in all their glory).

for the guest gift, we created bags with a mix of items from some of favorite shops a gift card to go get em tiger for coffee (their almond macadamia latte is so good!), candles from Poketo, a pinch bowl from Hawkins New York, Jacobsen salt and mini bottles of liquor from flask & field. i also love Still Life Ceramics for beautiful handmade pieces, Myrtle for clothes (i bought a dress there a few weeks back that i wore to a wedding), LCD for a beautiful shopping experience, A+R for home inspiration and many more!

we hosted a tiki party this summer on one of their rooftops and for this holiday party we wanted to to utilize one of their restaurants. hosting an event at a restaurant really eliminates many of the stressors as the food, drink, table, chairs, place settings, etc are already there and we don’t have to bring in all of the elements to make it happen. the meal was family style and we did a wine pairing which made it feel laid back and fun. we all just rotated around the table and talked for hours.

i highly recommend checking out ROW DTLA if you’re looking for a place to host an event. they have so many locations to pick from rooftops, to restaurants like M. Georgina (which is next on our list for a dinner party!) logistically it’s streamlined as there is plenty of parking and you can utilize the variety of shops inside.

we have hosted tons (100+!?) events over the years and there are so many moving pieces that go into each one. this party felt like one we could truly relax at and was really easy to plan from start to finish. and so nice to all get together before the holiday madness and fill up on pasta and champagne. i never ever regret a good friend’s dinner!

PIZZA PARTY!

pizza party | designlovefest

we learned how to make homemade pizza dough in cooking school this year and i was blown away by how easy it was to make. i generally worry with doughs that i’ll do something wrong with the yeast and it won’t rise correctly or i’ll let it rise too long or it will be super sticky but that isn’t the issue with this dough. it’s easy to throw together, and it’s fun to roll into individual sizes. i love how they each have a unique shape. so why not throw a pizza party this holiday season, put out a ton of toppings and let people make their own creations? since the dough is precooked, all you have to do is top the pizzas and cook in the broiler until the cheese is bubbling! we used our new dinnerware from Corelle latest collection, in their Terrazzo Rosa pattern which is super cute and chic. their plates and bowls are made from three layers of durable, yet lightweight glass which makes them great for entertaining and eating at home with young kids.

dough recipe:
makes 6-8 individual pizzas

• 1 1/3 cup -warm water – around 100-110 degrees, not hot or it will kill the yeast!
• 1/4 cup milk
• 1 tablespoon dry yeast
• 3-4 cups all-purpose flour (start with 3 and add more as needed, if the air is super dry you may only need 3 cups as i did)
• 1 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
• 1 tablespoon honey
2 tablespoon olive oil

• pour the warm water into a bowl. add milk, yeast and honey. stir with a fork and let rest for 2 minutes.

• add the flour, salt and olive oil. knead on a floured surface until smooth and elastic. this is where i’ll add a bit more flour as i knead to keep it from being too sticky and get a nice smooth texture.

• lightly coat the inside of the bowl (can be the same bowl as before) with olive oil. place the dough in the bowl, flip it over once so both sides have oil on them. lightly cover and place in a warm area for about an hour, until the dough doubles in size.

• when the dough has risen, place it on a lightly floured surface, divide it into 6-8 parts, roll each one into a ball, and lightly cover with a towel for 20 more minutes.

• pre-heat oven to 425, remove the towel, roll out the dough on a floured surface. place the pizza on a lightly greased baking sheet, cook for 8-9 minutes.

• remove from oven, top as desired and then place in the broiler until cheese is melted and edges are crispy, 2-3 minutes.

the dinner plates are the perfect size for stacking multiple slices of pizza. when i’m not entertaining an appetizer size plate is actually my most used size, i like the smaller size for most meals and they take up less space in the dishwasher. this dinner set comes with 6 dinner plates, 6 bowls and 6 appetizer size plates for $70.

WOMEN & WHISKIES PARTY!

women and whiskies invited me and my good friend victoria to host a girl’s valentine’s day party in my studio and it was SUCH a blast. my favorite girls, whiskey cocktails, pretty flowers, food, and dancing made for the perfect evening. i really love the concept of women and whiskies which is to support women and their consumption and education of whiskey. it has notoriously been a “men’s drink” and they want to switch that by empowering the ladies with knowledge so that we’re comfortable tasting, talking and buying the spirit on our own. kudos to that!

we sampled all of their whiskey brands (wild turkey , forty creek, russell’s reserve and glen grant) and mixed up four different cocktails (you can find the recipes, here.) that were all delicious and did the trick!

we had the best time putting this party together and i got to work with some of favorite vendors to completely transform my studio. found rentals really pulled out all of the stops and outfitted the studio with the most beautiful array of vintage rugs and furniture. it was basically girl heaven. i created a “drink pretty” vinyl wall decal and had it printed for over the couch. it really grounded the space and made it easy for me to show people what the hashtag for the party was!

moon canyon made an outrageous centerpiece and the prettiest hanging wall installation as the perfect backdrop to the bar. kristen is such a gem.

and heirloom la absolutely killed it with their color appropriate food for the occasion and impressive setup. have you ever seen prettier deviled eggs? we had a ton of finger foods for everyone to snack on the whole evening.
