i lived in my house for about two years without finishing most rooms. this always happens to me, i move in and decorate a room or two and then get busy or lazy or it feels hard to make design decisions and rooms just sit with a few things in them. luckily sarah makes really good design decisions and helped me transform the space completely! (remember our patio design makeover here, that’s where we started and we’re making some kitchen changes next)

the vibe i was going for was inspired by a trip to japan. clean lines with natural textures and calm energy. also no pink now that the boy lives there and he puts up with it in so many other rooms haha 🙂

i loved my old dining room table but it really didn’t fit in this larger room and also didn’t match with the floor wood. so we decided to switch it up for a white table and those awesome green chairs. we took out the off center white pendant light and replaced it with those two rattan lights that i love! changes the whole room.

table area sources: white table from Yliving, green chairs from muuto, rug from rug vista (so cheap!), and rattan pendant lights from anthropologie.

for the bar we wanted to make use of that counter because the way it was made it awkward to eat on. i loved sarah’s idea of getting the bar stools and extending the marble counter! we hang out there all the time now and chat about our day while we cook or when we entertain friends and aren’t quite done cooking.

i got all of the artwork from tappan collective. i love their site so much, they have a ton of amazing artists and a range of prices. i wanted the space to feel calm and inviting, so i chose art in more neutral tones with white frames.

we leaned the artwork on our custom semi handmade shelves. definitely check this company out! i will be using them in my kitchen to replace my ikea cabinets too! we got the half circle mirror custom made at a mirror shop somewhere in glendale. i love that addition! add a cactus, a giant plant, and a wall hanging (scarf) from block shop and now we’re getting somewhere…

tappan art sources: lani trock flowers, caroline denervaud shapes, eric chakeen camel sky and courtdeerdana kiss

more room sources: wall hanging from block shop textiles, white shelves from semi handmade, taller vases from west elm, blue ceramic pot by native silver, large planter by cb2

the low credenza is from blu dot and it’s such a great piece that i hope to have for a looooong time. perfect design.

it makes me SOOOO happy to have this room done and ready for friends!! thank you sarah for your awesome vision and turning that lifeless room into something really special.

This is an awesome transformation, I love it. I’ve never actually thought of 6 chairs colored in a statement color but I definitely like it.
Also the sideboard looks great in this space, lots of storage in times when minimalism is the key. Great job!
    Cheers from Germany, Steph

It looks sooo good! One thing that I wonder about and maybe you could write about some time is what to do with all of the random items and art that no longer work in a space when you change it! Gorgeous room!
