WEEKEND AT HOME / 20

area rugs under $500 | designlovefest

one of the most common home decor mistakes is getting a rug that’s too small for the space. a small rug can shrink a room when the rug should actually make the room feel bigger, warmer, and cozy. and i get it…big rugs are expensive and a huge commitment to make (some of the best ones are $1,000+). so i dug up a bunch of ample-sized area rugs under $500 for you! and lots of inspiration mixed in. for a super small room, aim for at least a 5′ x 7′ rug, but always go for an 8′ x 10′ or bigger for most spaces. you can always layer a few rugs for a unique look too. so make your home cozy with an area rug this weekend! happy decorating! – erika

Totally agree about the size! We just got a more appropriately sized rug for our living room and WHAT A DIFFERENCE. I will forever and always now be more thoughtful about the size of the rug. It’s great that any style of rug comes in every size. 🙂

Loving so many of these! I think the overdyed moroccan rug is my favorite. I have always struggled with the conflict of my desire for a big rug and the prices, as you mentioned. This was an awesome post!

I’m in love with that black and white rug. I love all with a classic pattern.

Hi Erika! I’ve been looking for a nice area rug, but my carpet is an ugly brown color (bleh!) I want everything to look cohesive (we have black furniture … #mancaveprobs … and I want my living space to look brighter since everything is so dark. What colors should I shoot for? PS: I love your Weekend at Home series. I look forward to reading it every week! xo Jessika http://www.beautybyjessika.com

hi jessika! great question…that is tricky! i’d go with something light to brighten up the space, maybe a white rug or a light beige, that will blend in well with the darker brown and black shades in the room. a beige jute rug might be just the fit for that brown carpet!

These are all beautiful but nearly all of them are more than $500 for an 8×10 like you suggest 🙁

Hi! I’ve been searching for the rug from the picture above the oslo wool rug and I haven’t had any luck. Do you mind telling me where the picture / rug is from?

A very good article and very interesting and direct, not like others that simply because the article is longer put words to fill, congratulations to the author !!
