the beginning of my 6 week trip started in paris. i was really excited to go with my friend denise because she had never been to europe and i thought it would be really fun to experience it together. atout france, a france tourism development agency, put together a trip that would show us paris in a new way. seeing that paris is one of my favorite places in the world, i jumped at the chance!

air france was the main sponsor of this trip. i saw their new commercials a few weeks before i left and felt proud to be connected to a brand with such a stylish vibe. have you seen them? we flew premium economy over to paris. i usually always fly coach, so it was a nice treat. they have footrests, a lot more space, and the seats recline more. a very good (and cheaper) alternative to business class.

the first few nights we stayed at the W Paris Opera hotel. i often stay in W hotels in the states because they are always comfortable and i think the staff there is so friendly and helpful. this W was definitely fancier than most i’ve stayed in, in a good way. most hotels i have stayed in in paris have been so small but this one was spacious and great.

the first night we ate at derriere (make a reservation before) such a cool vibe there and the food was amazing. it feels like a hidden gem.

our first day we wandered around the marais in the morning, had eggs benedict at cafe charlot (my paris tradition) had a beautiful lunch with our group at la dame de pic, and strolled through the jardin des tuileries in the sunshine.

we also met up with a friend from milk magazine on the gorgeous terrace at hotel costes. the berries and cream! and colette is always worth stopping in. such a cool store for gifts and inspiration. the clothes are pretty expensive, but it’s fun to look. don’t miss the beauty section.

we were given these tep wireless devices so we could have access to wifi anywhere we were. how have i gone on so many trips without one of these awesome little things?! definitely renting one of those in the future.

that night we did something super fun and different. we went to the paradis latin cabaret! i had the best time. you have dinner while you watch the show. guys swinging from trapeze, topless ladies in ornate costumes. a little cheesy, but i loved it.

the thing i really enjoyed about going on this trip with atout france was they took me to a bunch of places i wouldn’t normally visit or see. i felt like i experienced paris in a new way, which was really cool.

we had a french feast at fauchon. look how colorful their sweets are! a very pretty stop.

something else cool that we did was a walking tour in the batignolles neighborhood with the wonderful time tour. i had never been to this area before, and it was really charming. they wanted us to experience a less touristy area and see how a parisian really lives. we explored the rue de levis market street in the 17th. we tasted the best olive oil i’ve ever had at première pression provence (go there for lavender soaps, interesting ketchups and oils, olives and more)

the square des batignolles is a gorgeous park to walk around. so peaceful and well landscaped. stop by scoop me a cookie afterwards! there are lots of great little design stores in the area too.

obviously we had to stop by the eiffel tower. i loved seeing denise’s face as we drove up to it and she saw it for the first time out the window.

before leaving batignolles, we stopped by a little market and picked up cheese, meats, bread, fruits and wine for our last night picnic. we rushed to get to the tip of the Ile de la Citet before the sun went down and got there just in time. full of young people with their own picnic and alcohol materials, everyone lines up and hangs their feet off the edge and watches the boats go by. it was memorable friend time.

such a quick little trip! early the next morning we took the eurostar train from paris to reims and over the next few days we explored the champagne region…more on everything we saw there soon!

How exciting you were in MY neighborhood, the Batignolles! It’s like a village within Paris. I’m kind of bummed they took you to a cookie shop since you can get those easily in the US, but I understand since they are good cookies…

Ugh now I want to go back to Paris! (Let’s face it though, I always want to go back.) So many fun ideas. And that was our fave picnic spot too! Love to relive it through you!

My husband and I are going to Paris for 3.5 days before a 2.5-week stay in Italy. Neither of us have been to Paris and are mainly focused on just experiencing the culture and food! We will be staying in an AirBnb in Le Marais district. Any recommendations on places we must visit to get the true Parisian experience? We aren’t planning on trying to cram in a bunch of museums this time. Thanks so much! 🙂
