MY BEDROOM MAKEOVER
i’ve been waiting so long to post this! happy to finally get to show you guys the transformation of my bedroom. i brought in victoria from sfgirlbybay to help me on this project, because she is SO GOOD AT IT. really, she’s an interior queen and i knew our aesthetics were in line. i feel like i know how to decide on what i like and don’t like, or style a smaller vignette…but when it comes to putting a whole room together, it just wasn’t happening for me.
we never put much effort into this room when we moved in, we just put a bunch of random things from our old loft in it and let it be. the space just felt so unfinished compared to our living room, and i really wanted to create a relaxing and ADULT bedroom to fit the style of the rest of the house. victoria helped bring the whole vision to life and i could not be more grateful! ps. i know the before shots aren’t perfect, but it actually is pretty accurate of how the room looked most days.

when victoria and I first started the project we both made pinterest boards (hers and mine) so that we could get on the same page with our inspiration for the room. i always find this to be very helpful. it gave us new ideas and also helped track the items we wanted to purchase for the room later. i personally find a lot of inspiration in scandinavian design and there were a few details i knew i wanted to include in the room: marble, linen, light wood, a lot of white, and some blush accents…
so now let me break down some of the details in the room…
i loved this unique round shelf from ferm living. it has a leather strap that makes it extra special. that shop perfectly fit the style of the bedroom.
a big improvement to the room was adding proper curtains. when we moved in the room had a pull down shade with a distracting black box over the window, a not so great curtain rods and very sheer curtains hanging. we installed these industrial pipe rods and these linen cotton curtains from west elm. now the room has a dreamier feeling and allows me to control the light a little better.
for the bedside tables we decided on these matching birch bentwood tables from modernica. (the natural finish) they are low and simple, but have a lot of style in the way they are built.
the sconces over the bed are the branch model from cedar & moss. the shape is really unique and creates a moody light in the evening. the brass adds a nice touch to the wall as well.
the moroccan rug is from an AMAZING etsy shop called pink rug co. seriously, such a gem to know about this! so many gorgeous, authentic, colorful rugs in such great shape. there are about 8 more rugs i want from there but nowhere to put them.
i think this is the first gallery wall that i’ve had that i actually LIKE. i find they usually end up looking messy or loud. for this wall, i went with tappan collective for the art. they have a lot of interesting work in their shop! i decided on almost all black and white pieces and included one with a touch of pink to tie in the room. i love the soothing vibe these prints give off and the white frames are great quality.
the credenza! i feel pretty happy about this part. we decided on getting a very affordable cabinet from ikea and to hack it. the first thing we did was replaced the plastic legs with these brass legs from pretty pegs (a company that makes stylish legs to upgrade your ikea furniture with! genius, right?) see all of the models here, and you can use the discount code: designlovefest with your purchase to save 15% on your order!
then we ordered a marble top to exactly fit on top of the credenza. it took me awhile to find the marble finish that i wanted (white carrera with not a lot of dark veins) but it came out perfect! it cost $500 but upgraded a very low priced item by a LOT.
the white light is actually from ikea also. it costs 39 DOLLARS (!) and is actually really sturdy and good looking. sometimes ikea really nails it, huh? i picked up the stones from various vintage shops and flea markets. i love the variation of colors.
i ordered simple brass closet door pulls from anthropologie. (similar here)
+ shop the gallery wall above: tappan collective cheryl humphrey’s many moons No.6, tappan collective cheryl humphrey’s many moons No. 14, tappan collective alyson provax’s diagram 1, tappan collective brian merriam’s alone together, tappan collective isaac zoller’s escondida shorebreak
the linen bedding is one of my favorite upgrades to the room. we splurged on a white linen duvet cover and white + blush linen pillow cases from bodie and fou. they make me never want to get out of bed, which can be a problem actually. a fluffy grey pillow from west elm was added for a little extra texture.
the photo above the bed is by an artist named gregor hochmuth and is available through ugallery here. it’s the danish pavilion at shanghai’s world expo 2010. i also realllllly love this print from their shop! it sort of reminds me of a wes anderson vibe.
+ shop this room: ferm living shop the round dorm, mongolian lamb pillow c/o west elm, ikea bed frame, branch sconce c/o cedar & moss, modernica bedside table, saucer lamp c/o modernica, bodie and fou linen bedding, moroccan rug c/o pink rug co, chay blanket on bed, ikea credenza with pretty peg estelle legs and custom marble top, on top, ikea work lamp on credenza, anthropologie ceramic light, print above bed c/o ugallery gregor hochmuth the sky, maryanne moodie copper woven wall hanging, bubble alarm clock c/o west elm, shop class large woven basket.
