finding what you love to do is a long journey. one that might take years, or decades. i am still trying to figure out what my path is exactly. everything has been moving quickly that i have barely had time to sit with myself and write my goals out (something i used to do all the time!) i took a look back in my high school journal and found a list that made me smile…i had written things like “go to college for design” and “work for nylon magazine” and even wrote “be creative no matter what.”

so i figured it was time for a 2013 list…

1. continue to grow my art directing portfolio.

2. find a large studio that i can work/shoot in.

3. make the “designlovefestival” happen that i’ve been thinking about for years.

4. to find more time for family & relationship. to not let work consume my thoughts.

5. suck it up and learn how to use your nice camera. you like taking pictures, so just do it.

6. more personal projects.

7. try to travel to every continent by the time i’m 30 and expand my travel love into reviewing hotels. (on my short list of places to dream about: thailand, morocco, japan & tulum)

8. continue to push designlovefest & myself to the next level.

9. learn more about managing employees. and how to creative a positive working environment withΒ boundaries, organization, enthusiasm and clear goals.

10. don’t stop dreaming about brand collaborations. and make sure it’s always a genuine, natural fit. trust your gut on this one.

there they are. now i just have to focus on them. i encourage you to make a list as well…it’s nice to sit and think about what would make you happy in this life. YOLO, you know?

Count me in for Designlovefestival, whatever that ends up being! It’s weird how much your goals change over time isn’t it? In high school, I definitely for sure 100% wanted to go into political science and get a Ph.D. Now? Um, no way!! It’s the sort of thing that makes me scared to buy my domain name for more than a year at a time!

    Katie says:

The best thing is when you can go back to your goals list in a week, a month, a year… 10 years from now and cross items off. I find that helps me gain so much perspective. Some goals I set a year ago are no longer goals. Or if I did them, then great. Maybe I did that thing a hundred times because I loved it and that pushed me in one direction, or maybe I did a thing once and was like, “eugghh – NOPE” and decided to focus on something else.

I guess what I’m saying is that I agree – I find these lists so helpful!

    Kellee says:

Number 5 is my goal as well. My mother gifted me with a beautiful camera and I still have yet to sit down and properly learn how to use it!! Now is the time! πŸ™‚

I always forget how important it is to sit and write down goals, so thanks for reminding me!
I find that if I don’t, I end up working hard on things that seem important, but would never make it onto my list.
My favourite author says he never had a career plan, just a list of things he wanted to do and he saw that list as a mountain, if a job opportunity turned up that took him further away from the mountain, he wouldn’t take it. The speech is excellent and massively popular, you can see it here: http://vimeo.com/42372767
    Look forward to seeing Designlovefestival!

Small and the cutest on this planet: full of rivers, lakes, woods, caves, a little part of seaside, good food and lovely old towns. One part of Narnia movie was filmed in our amazing nature (they shot the bridge battle near Bovec in the Soča Valley, Slovenia.)

You are so intelligent. You realize therefore significantly in terms of this subject,
made me in my opinion consider it from so many numerous angles.
Its like men and women don’t seem to be interested unless it’s one thing to
accomplish with Girl gaga! Your personal stuffs excellent.
